Career
Internship at the University of Innsbruck’s Quantum Interfaces Group
Open to MSc students and PhD candidates | Internship period: 3 months

The Quantum Interfaces Group at the University of Innsbruck (UIBK) is developing quantum network nodes based on trapped ions and cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED), key components for future quantum networks. In our laboratories, we study the coherent transfer of quantum states between light and matter. In particular, we generate single photons entangled with qubits stored in trapped ions, enabling photons to act as carriers of quantum information across the quantum network.
The intern will focus on characterizing single photons emitted from an ion coupled to a fiber-based cavity. This includes performing Hong–Ou–Mandel interference measurements, setting up and optimizing Single-Photon Counting Modules (SPCMs), developing code for experimental control, and analyzing measurement data.
We welcome creative and motivated students who are eager to contribute to the development of the quantum internet.
