UIBK has expertise in quantum networking using trapped atomic ions in optical cavities, including transfer quantum states between light and matter, based on the interactions between single atoms, photons, and phonons, and the building of optical interfaces to allow trapped ions to communicate with a broad range of other examples of quantum matter.
At QIA, UIBK is developing a metropolitan network of multi-qubit trapped-Ion processing nodes with telecom fibers and, in collaboration with AQT, is constructing a data center compatible end node.
